Single
vehicle wreck kills woman near town
By
Roger Estlack, Clarendon Enterprise
A 23-year-old woman was killed ten miles west of Clarendon
Saturday when her family’s vehicle rolled over.
Courtney E. Brymer of College Station was pronounced dead at
the scene by Justice of the Peace Jimmy Johnson at 1:37 p.m., according to
Department of Public Safety Trooper Chris Ward.
Brymer and her family were travelling to Raton, New Mexico,
for a family reunion and had left their home in College Station between 5
and 5:15 a.m.
Brymer’s mother, 46-year-old Christel Brymer, was driving
and apparently fell asleep at the wheel at about 12:45 p.m., Ward said.
According to the trooper, the vehicle crossed the center
median of US 287, struck the pavement of the southbound lanes sideways,
and rolled at least 2˝ times.
Also in the vehicle were 48-year-old Thomas Brymer and
15-year-old Justin Brymer, the father and brother of the deceased.
All the occupants of the vehicle were wearing seatbelts, and
no one was ejected in the accident, Ward said.
Surviving family members were transported by ambulance to
Northwest Texas Hospital in Amarillo where they were treated and released
for minor injuries, Ward said.
Southbound traffic was reduced to one lane for more than two
hours because of the wreck.
Recent news reports have said driving while drowsy is equally
or more dangerous than driving while intoxicated.
“If you feel yourself getting drowsy, you need to pull over
and let someone else drive,” Ward said.
