meats team wins title
Clarendon College’s
meat judging team won the national meats judging championship when they
competed in Plainview October 30.
In the A-Division
competition, Clarendon came in first with a total of 3,545 points out of a
maximum 4,200.
That team consisted
of Brett Gaylord of Perryton, Ben Pyke of Humble, Trey Alex of Bloominton,
Morgan Unrast from Pearce, Ariz., Arliss McDonald from Dumas, Jason Eitel
of Troy, and J.T. Buford of League City.
Garden City Community
College took second with 3,495 points; and the defending champion,
Tarleton State University, took third with 3,491 points
The contest is
sponsored by Cargill Meat Solutions, and the judging competition is held
at the Cargill facility north of Plainview.
Twenty-six schools
from across the nation participated with 185 students and a total of 250
individuals participating in the event when the judges and coaches are
taken into account.
