City
sales tax receipts increase in May
The City of Clarendon
posted another gain in sales tax receipts when Texas Comptroller Carole
Keeton Strayhorn released figures for May last Friday.
The city’s sales
tax allocation grew 6.85 percent to a total of $22,286.18, which is up
from $20,857.12 in May 2005. Clarendon is now 8.15 percent ahead for the
year to date.
Hedley also saw an
increase with an allocation of $632.90, which was a 61.15 percent increase
from the same time last year.
Howardwick’s rebate
dropped slightly by 0.79 percent to a total of $925.49, but that city is
also still ahead for the year to date by a margin of 3.76 percent.
Strayhorn said the
state received $1.54 billion in sales tax revenue in May, up 5.8 percent,
compared to May 2005.
State sales tax
collections in May and local sales tax allocations in June represent sales
that occurred in April and were reported to the Comptroller in May.
