Johnson win re-election Tuesday

In the only two
locally contested races Tuesday, Donley County voters in Precincts 1, 2,
and 4 returned the incumbents to office.
Justice of the Peace
for Pcts. 1&2 Jimmy Johnson (R) fended off a challenge from Democrat
Connie Havens and won re-election, 408-275.
Precinct 4 voters
gave their commissioner, Bob Trout (D), another term in office and chose
not to write in the name of his challenger, Claude DeBord, by a margin of
181 to 79.
Other local races
were uncontested and results are as follows: County Judge Jack Hall (D)
987, County Treasurer Wanda Smith (R) 1065, County Attorney Landon Lambert
(R) 980, County Clerk Fay Vargas (D) 1006, Pcts. 3&4 Justice of the
Peace Ann Kennedy (D) 446, and
Pct. 2 Commissioner Donnie Hall (R) 318.
Donley County voters
vastly preferred native son US Rep. Mac Thornberry (R), choosing him over
his challenger Roger Waun (D) by a margin of .
Local voters also
wanted to give Gov. Rick Perry (R) another term, giving him 538 votes to
292 for independent Carole Strayhorn, 258 for independent Kinky Friedman,
and 170 for Chris Bell (D).
