CC program one of first in Texas

Clarendon College has organized one of the first junior college Ranch Horse Teams in the state.

The group of about 20 meets on Monday nights at the Livestock & Equine Center at CC to practice, and a group will travel to several Stock Horse of Texas contests in the spring semester competing in reining, stock horse pleasure, trail, and working cow horse.

Emily Rowland, the equine science instructor at CC, organized the group and said they would be competing against schools like Texas Tech and Texas A&M in the contests.

“The objective of the team is to promote Clarendon College and agriculture through competitions and stock horse events,” Rowland said.

The team functions solely on donations and money raised from fundraisers.  The group is asking for tax deductible sponsorships from individuals and companies in exchange for advertising during competitions.  Students will show in monogrammed sponsorships, and the CC stalling area will display a large banner listing sponsors.

If you have any questions about the team or would like to contribute, please contact Emily Rowland, CC Ranch Horse Team Coach, at 874-4842.
