Legionnaires to hold annual fall convention 

Hedley’s Adamson-Lane Post 287 of the American Legion will host the 18th District of the American Legion Department of Texas annual fall convention on the Clarendon College campus this Saturday, October 27.

The one-day convention will focus on training with several dignitaries in attendance. Welcome remarks will be made by CC Interim President Bill Auvenshine, and Randall County Judge Ernie Houdashell will offer the keynote remarks.

Representing the Department of Texas will be Department Auxiliary Secretary Paula Rainey of Austin, Past Department Commander and current alternate national Executive Committee Representative Conrad Roberson of Odessa, and Past Department Vice Commander James McNair of El Paso.

This will be the Hedley post’s first time to host the convention.

District 18 Commander Barry Schoenhals of Darrouzett said the facilities are perfect and the entire convention promises to be a great one, offering an opportunity to train and visit delegates from the 25 posts in the Panhandle and northern Rolling Plains.

Schoenhals will also present awards to the following American Legion Post for achievements in the year 2007: Amarillo Post 54, Booker Post 523, Borger Post 412, Claude Post 344, Darrouzett Post 635, Dimmitt Post 445, Dumas Post 224, Hart Post 311, Higgins Post 509, Memphis Post 175, Miami Post 106, Perryton Post 254, Stratford Post 262, and Tulia Post 214.

Hedley Post Commander Jack Moreman of Clarendon will dedicate the convention to Donley County World War II veterans Calvin Holland, who is Missing In Action, and M.O. Weatherly.

Schoenhals announced that an informal social is scheduled for those arriving on Friday, October 26, at the Clarendon Country Club. The actual convention will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday in the Bairfield Activity Center with registration and community tours.
