Clarendon College meats team makes history

The Clarendon College meats judging team made history this weekend when they won their sixth straight national contest this year.

The team won the Cargill Meats Solutions Contest on October 28 in Plainview, making them the first CC team to go undefeated and win all six national contests.

Josh Hasty was high individual, Kelli Mock was second high individual, Derek Moore was sixth high individual, and Paul Morales was eighth high individual.  Other members of the team were Henry Ruiz, Jace McMath, and Frank Perez.

The American Meats Science Association also selects an All-American Team that is determined by GPA and judging performance. Those named to the First Team All-American (only four students) were Josh Hasty and Derek Moore. Those named to the Second Team All-American (only four students) were Jace McMath and Paul Morales.

Frank Perez was voted by his peers to receive the Rachel Hamilton Memorial “Spirit” award.

The team has won the Garden City contest, the American Royal Stock Show contest in Emporia, Kan., the National Western Livestock Show in Greeley, Colo., the Southwestern Livestock Show in Dallas, and the Houston Livestock Show.
