Several county officials file for 2008 elections

Filing continues for seven county offices that will be up for election next November.

At press time, Sheriff Butch Blackburn, Precinct 3&4 Constable Anthony Sellars, and Pct. 1 Commissioner Ernest Johnston were all running for reelection on the Democratic ticket.

Pct. 3 Commissioner Andy Wheatley has filed to run again on the Republican ticket, and Linda Crump is the sole newcomer to the search for public office, filing on the Republican ticket to run for Tax Assessor/Collector.

The current Tax Assessor, Wilma Lindley, has announced her intentions to retire at the end of her term in January 2009 after 22 years of service.

Precinct 1&2 Justice of the Peace Connie Havens has announced her intentions to file for next year’s election but had not done so at press time, according to party officials.

The only other local office up for election is that of County Attorney, currently held by Landon Lambert.

So far, none of the candidates have drawn any opponents.

Candidates can file for the election in the County Clerk’s office through January 2, 2008.
