Graveside services for Harold Dean Hughes, age 66, were held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, July 14, 2000, in Citizens Cemetery in Clarendon with Rev. Truman Ledbetter, Pastor of the First Baptist Church in Clarendon, officiating.  Burial was held in Citizens Cemetery under the direction of Robertson Funeral Directors, Inc.

Mr. Hughes died Wednesday, July 12, 2000, in Claude.  He was born September 23, 1933, in Ryan, Oklahoma.  He lived in Plainview for 20 years, then Slaton for three years, before moving to Howardwick ten years ago.  He was a truck driver much of his life before his retirement.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillie Mae Henry Hughes on June 6, 2000.  He was a member of the Seth Ward Baptist Church in Plainview.

Survivors include three daughters, Sherry York of Howardwick, Gail Edwards of Oklahoma City, OK, and Paula Patton of Wichita, Kansas; two sons, Dwayne Hughes and Gary Hughes, both of Waurika, OK; two brothers, Billy Hughes of Sidney, Nebraska, and Dale Hughes of Plainview; two sisters, Lorene Van Zant of Tucson, Arizona and Bonnie Howard of Lipan, Texas; ten grandchildren; and twelve great grandchildren.
