Butts
Funeral
services for Murle Lena Butts, age 83, were held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday,
January 21, 2001, in the First Baptist Church in Clarendon.
Burial was held in Citizens Cemetery under the direction of
Robertson Funeral Directors, Inc.
Mrs.
Butts died Thursday, January 18, 2001, in Amarillo. She was born October 15, 1917, in Slaton.
She was an Amarillo resident from 1957 until 1982 when she moved to
Clarendon. She returned to
Amarillo one year ago. She
married James Blaine Wycough Butts on August 17, 1949, at Wichita Falls,
Texas. He preceded her in
death on April 21, 1999.
Mrs.
Butts was a Registered Nurse for most of her life. She was a Captain in the US Army Medical Corps during World
War II, having served in the European and North African Theaters.
She was a recipient of the Bronze Star.
She was employed by the VA Hospital in Amarillo for 14 years and
was an Operating Room Supervisor for several years before her retirement.
She had served on the Donley County Senior Citizens Board, was a
member of the Pathfinder Club, and involved in a Women’s Bible Study
Group. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Clarendon.
Survivors
include four sons: James Butts of Angel Fire, NM, John Butts of Colorado
Springs, CO, David Butts of Quito, Ecuador, and Mike Butts of Clarendon;
and nine grandchildren.
Casket
bearers were Jim Garland, Todd Knorpp, Jim Shelton, Casey
Alexander, Herman Mooring, and Edwin Campbell.
