services for Reece Alexander Hough, Jr., age 87, were held at 10:00 a.m.
on Monday, March 18, 2002, in the Tenth Avenue United Methodist Church in
Amarillo with Rev. Wendell Leach, Pastor, officiating.
Masonic graveside rites were held at 1:00 p.m. in Westpark Cemetery
in Hereford by the Claude Masonic Lodge #719.
Arrangements were under the direction of Robertson Funeral
Directors, Inc., in Clarendon.
Hough died Thursday, March 14, 2002, in Amarillo. He was born June 19, 1914, in Hereford and had lived in
Hereford; Canyon; Bovina; El Paso; Dallas; Denison; Vicksburg, MS; Conchas
Dam, NM; Albuquerque, NM; and Claude.
At the time of his death, he was a resident of Amarillo. He married Clara Lorine Combs on December 10, 1937, at
Albuquerque, NM. He was a
civilian employee of the Army Corps of Engineers and later the Atomic
Energy Commission in Albuquerque before retiring in 1960.
He was a 50-year Mason and served as Worshipful Master of Claude
Lodge #719 in 1980 and 1981. He
was a member of the York Rite Bodies, Khiva Shrine Temple in Amarillo, and
Ballut Abyad Shrine in Albuquerque since 1952.
He graduated from Canyon High School in 1931 and attended WTSTC in
1931 and 1932. He began
playing the clarinet in 1928 and had played in several bands and
orchestras. He was a member
of the WT Band in 1932 and donated a B flat clarinet and wood series 9 and
Selmer Bundy B flat clarinet and an original WT band sweater to Dr. Gary
Garner, the WT band director. He
was a member of the 10th Avenue United Methodist Church in Amarillo.
was preceded in death by a son, Larry W. Hough, in 1978.
include his wife, Clara Hough of Amarillo; two daughters, Elizabeth
Phillips of Amarillo and Virginia A. Temme of Albuquerque, NM; one son,
Thomas Reece Hough of Amarillo; one sister, Floy Oliver of Lubbock; seven
grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren.
