Acord
Funeral
services for Thayer E. “Ted” Acord, age 85, of San Antonio were held
Friday, May 10, 2002, in the Chapel at Porter Lording Mortuary North, San
Antonio, with the Rev. John R. Gibes and Rev. Bill Duke officiating.
Interment followed in Mission Burial Park North.
Mr.
Acord, a loving husband and wholly devoted to his family, passed away
Tuesday, May 7, in a San Antonio hospital.
Born August 15, 1916, in Jacksboro, Texas, he was the son of Minnie
Berry and James Monroe Acord. His
formative years were spent in Hedley and Clarendon where his parents owned
the Acord Dairy Farm. After
attending the Martin School and graduating from Clarendon High School, Mr.
Acord attended Clarendon College and went to the University of Texas,
receiving B.S. and M.S. degrees in electrical engineering in 1939.
He married Rosalie Frances Gilbert on September 21, 1939.
Mr. Acord worked for the General Electric Company in Schenectady,
New York; Dallas; and San Antonio, retiring after 42 years of service. He
was a 32nd degree member of the Metropolitan Masonic Lodge #1182 and a
member of the Eastern Star, Scottish Rite, and Alzafar Shrine Temple.
A former resident of Dallas, he was a long-time member of the
University Park United Methodist Church, Dallas, where he served on the
Board and building fund-raising committee.
The Acords moved to San Antonio in 1969, where he was a member of
Coker United Methodist Church. His
hobbies included fishing and hunting, working in his shop, where he was
known as Mr. Fix-It, and helping friends.
Survivors
include his wife of 62 years, Rosalie; daughters and sons-in-law, Linda
Acord Pursley and Lee Wain of Longview; Karen Acord Shields and Jimmy of
Mountain View, AR; Susan Acord Murphie and Bill of Rockville, MD; son, Ken
Acord of San Antonio; brother, Randall Acord and his wife Marion of
Fairbanks, AK; six grandchildren; and four great
grandchildren.
