Dateline: January 15, 2004


Bill Graham, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend went to be with the Lord on January 9, 2004.  He was born January 1, 1927, to parents, James and Elizabeth Graham in Parnell, Texas, and grew up on a farm in the Texas Panhandle.

Services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 13, 2004, at Harris Avenue Baptist Church with Pastor Dr. Travis Monday, officiating. Graveside services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 14, 2004, in Citizens Cemetery in Clarendon.

Bill joined the United States Navy Reserve in 1943 and served in the Philippines.  He was recalled to active duty during World War II.  He married Laverne Darden on December 18, 1946.  They adopted a daughter, Patricia, in 1964.  Bill worked for GTE for thirty-nine years.  After many happy years, Laverne passed away in 1995.  While attending hospice meetings, he met Ruth Faircloth.  They married in 1997.  He found the church home he had always hoped for in Harris Avenue Church and became a deacon in 1999.  He was also a Mason.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Laverne; brothers, Fred, James, Harold, Doyce, and James J. Graham; sisters, Ruth Thornton, Dee Graham, Sue Rhodes, and Mary Rush.

Survivors include his wife of seven years, Ruth Graham; daughter, Patricia Johnston and husband David; grandsons, William “Billy” and Matthew Johnston; a brother, Robert Graham and wife Elizabeth of San Antonio; and numerous nieces and nephews as well as a host of friends.

Pallbearers were Frances Brashear, Joe Bullock, Landy Cason, Tommy Matthews, Doyle Riddle, and Marlin Weaver.  Honorary pallbearers were the Deacons of Harris Avenue Baptist Church.
