Reid
Funeral services for
Bill R. Reid, age 77, were held at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, February 14, 2005,
in the Lamesa Church of Christ. Funeral
arrangements were under the direction of Branon Funeral Home.
Mr. Reid died Friday,
February 11, 2005, in Lubbock. He
was born February 8, 1928, in Clarendon to Lloyd and Ethel Hinkle Reid.
He graduated from Goodnight High School in 1945.
He graduated from Texas Tech College in 1949 with a Bachelor of
Science degree in animal husbandry. He
was active in Student Council, Aggie Club, and Block and Bridle while at
Tech.
An Army sergeant in
the Korean Conflict, he served in Germany and Fort Louis, Washington,
until September 1952. Bill married Alice Joy Barron on September 27, 1952.
A farmer in Dawson
County for 52 years, Bill was an active member of the community.
He served on the Lamesa school board for nine years.
He was recognized with the Dawson County 4-H Spur Award. As an
active member of Texas Farm Bureau since 1963, Bill served on the Dawson
County board and at the state level for eight years and was state vice
president and secretary-treasurer.
He was a member
of the Lamesa Cotton Growers and National Cotton Council and the Cotton
Council International. In
1997, Bill received the State Farm Pioneer Award for his outstanding
leadership.
Survivors
include his wife of 52 years; three sons, Spencer and wife Royce of
Austin, Cody and his wife Karen of Omaha, Nebraska, and Randy and his wife
Anna of Loop; a daughter, Katrina Dorris and her husband Richard of San
Angelo; a sister, Nell White of Borger; and six grandchildren: Hayden,
Taylor, Ryan, and Duncan Reid all of Austin, Chance Dorris of San Angelo,
and Austin Reid of Omaha.
