Mrs. Lohoefer died
Friday, January 6, 2006, in Clarendon.
She was born February 26, 1907, in Hunt County, Texas, and was
brought to Donley County as an infant by
her parents Adam and Icy Stanford Risley.
She married Carl Harris in 1924 and then was married to Conrad
Jerry Lohoefer in 1935. Clara worked for many years at the Farmers State
Bank, which later became the First Bank and Trust and then the Herring
National Bank, before retiring at the age of 85.
She was at one time active in her church.
Clara saw many changes in her 98 years, including two world wars,
the great flu epidemic of 1918 that took the lives of many Americans, saw
women gain the right to vote, and watched men walk on the moon.
She often said that she would like to come back in a hundred years
to see what the world would be like. She departed this life as she had
lived it, with grace and dignity.
Preceding her in
death were her husband, Jerry Lohoefer; a granddaughter, Deborah Sharp
DuPuy; a sister, Helen McGregor; and a brother, Lloyd Risley.
Survivors include her
daughter, Billie Nell Shaffer of Clarendon; a brother, Maurice Risley and
wife Mary Neil of Clarendon; two grandchildren, David Sharp of Clarendon
and Jennifer Griffin of Florida; six great grandchildren; and several
great great grandchildren.
