Wilford Lance “Bill” Russell, 69, died Thursday, April 26, 2007, in Clarendon.

Services were held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 29, 2007, in Robertson Chapel of Memories with Rev. Darrell Burton, Pastor of Martin Baptist Church in Clarendon, officiating.  Cremation was held on Tuesday, May 1.  Services were under the arrangement of Robertson Funeral Directors, Inc., of Clarendon.

Mr. Russell was born March 28, 1938, in Westwood, California, to Lee Dean and Bernice Vogel Russell.  His family settled in Red Bluff, CA, where he lived until joining the US Navy in 1965.  His life with the military took him to many countries, and he was decorated for his participation with a commendation and Purple Heart in Vietnam.  He married the former Jacqueline Morrow on December 8, 1967, at Bremerton, Washington.  They were residents of Canton, OH, before moving to Clarendon 14 years ago.  His move to Clarendon was beneficial for the more relaxed lifestyle and friends who helped make the transition from a hectic pace where he was a newspaper editor up north to a slower pace in Texas.  He had worked for newspapers in Clarendon and for the Amarillo Globe News.  Prior to his illness, he was employed at the Clarendon College Library.  He was very much loved by all and will be missed dearly.

Survivors include his wife, Jackie; 3 sons, Dan, Dave and Grey and their spouses; 2 daughters, Vicki and Julie; one brother, Lee; one sister, Beth; 11 grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren.

The family requests memorials be to Odyssey Hospice in Amarillo.
