Julia
Catherine Taylor Murphy, 96, died Saturday, July 12, 2008, in
Albuquerque, NM.
Graveside services will be at 1:00
pm on Thursday, July 17, 2008, at Citizens Cemetery in Clarendon with
Pastor Joe Hunsaker, officiating. Services are under the arrangement of
Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon.
Julia Catherine Taylor Murphy, a
local pioneer family member, died at the age of 96 on July 12, 2008. She
attended school in Clarendon and was the class “yell leader” for her
high school years. She had many activities, but liked to talk about the
time she did the Charleston down Polk Street in Amarillo during a parade.
She married Thomas Nelson Murphy in 1929, and they moved into the
“Murphy Castle”. They later established residence in Amarillo, where
she loved her neighbors.
She was preceded in death by her
husband in 1985; her parents, Walter and Minnie Taylor; three sisters,
Athlyn Boomer, Vivian Blackwell, and Dorothy Matthews.
Survivors include her daughter,
Alma Louise Hunsaker and husband George; two sons, Tommy Taylor Murphy and
Patrick Dennis Murphy; four grandchildren, Lucy Ann Hunsaker, Joe Thomas
Hunsaker and wife Barbara, Julie Beth Hunsaker, and Tim Murphy; two
great-grandchildren, Joe Thomas Hunsaker, Jr. and Jonathan Taylor Hunsaker.
