County historical commission making plans for courthouse

By Roger Estlack, Clarendon Enterprise

The Donley County Historical Commission met Tuesday night at the Courthouse Annex to discuss the future of the county courthouse.

According to county historical commission chairman Jean Stavenhagen, the local group hopes to make long range plans to pursue the possibilities of obtaining grant money which may be available from the state in the near future.

Gov. George W. Bush announced last month that he intends to ask the legislature for $200 million to help fund restoration of Texas’ courthouses.  According to Stavenhagen, this could put the Donley County Courthouse in a good position since it is in the top 55 of the 225 courthouses investigated by the state.
