Broncos slam Booker Kiowas, 17 -6

By Sandy Anderberg

The Broncos gained two big wins over the week against Booker and Memphis to go to 6-0 in District play (9-1 overall) by defeating Booker 17-6 and Memphis 6-3.

In the Booker game, the Broncos and Kiowas played fairly evenly for the first three innings.  The fourth inning, the Broncos broke loose and added three runs while holding Booker scoreless.  That was the difference the Broncos needed to go ahead and seal the win.

The Memphis game proved to be a little closer for the Broncos as they trailed the Cyclones until the fourth inning.

“It was a close game throughout,” Coach Brad Elam said.  “They were able to score two early runs in the first, but we held them to only one more run the rest of the game.”

According to Elam, Troy Chambless pitched his first game and did a great job.

“Troy pitched an outstanding game and gave up only those two early runs,” Elam said.  “Austin came on in relief in the fifth to hold down Troy’s first win.  Offensively, we struggled to hit the ball hard.”

Trevor Leeper reached base three times, had 1 RBI’s, and scored two runs.

“Devin Noble was the hitting hero,” Elam said.  “He hit a double to bring in three runs in the fourth to take the lead, and he also had two hits and four RBI in the game.”

The Broncos will continue their season Friday, March 28, at Childress at 5 p.m. and at home against Borger March 31 at 4 p.m.
